Project Summary

Customer Problem

A potential customer has an air conditioning/heating system that is water cooled. Consequently, in the event of a water stoppage, their system will no longer be cooled and will overheat, burning out the motors.

The customer wants the A/C unit turned off if the water supply is shut off in order not to damage the system. This is possible with AKWA Technologies.

The AKWA Technologies Solution

When a water leak is detected by one of our sensors, the AKWA system will not only shut off the water but also the power supply to the air conditioning/heating system.

AKWA Technologies has developed this solution to be able to connect to a standard power outlet. This transmission module connects to the power supply from the A/C unit, which itself is connected to 110 A/C. As soon as a water leak is detected by the system, the power supply to the thermostat and each individual unit is turned off.

How it Works:

A product in two parts:

  1. The transmission module: is plugged into the controller and communicates in radio frequency with
  2. The receiving module: is placed on the power supply and connects the wires to the A/C unit which turns off the power supply to the thermostat.

When a water leak is detected, the AKWA controller turns off the water and power to the Air Conditioning unit – saving the motor from burning out.

Diagram showing an AKWA Water Alarm Controller connected to a power outlet, sending a signal via a transmitter to a receiver, which is plugged into another outlet and connected to an A/C unit.

The transmitter module is connected to the water alarm controller and a power outlet. This receiving module communicates directly with the wireless transmitter and the Water Alarm controller. When the controller detects a water leak the master valve is closed and a signal is sent to the receiver to turn the power off to the A/C unit.

To turn the water back on when a system reset is done, a signal is sent at the same time from the transmitting module to the receiving module. This allows the power supply to the air conditioning/heating system to be restored, which is done automatically.

AKWA controls the air conditioning/heating system, while operating normally, in order to prevent and detect water leaks within the property. A unique solution by AKWA Technologies!

Result/ Testimony

After comparing the various water leak detection systems available on the market, the AKWA Technologies system was the only one that allowed us to detect water leaks from water-supplied appliances and be equipped with a relay to stop the air conditioning in the event of a water leak caused by this equipment.

The system now protects 32 condos in the building. Thanks to the AKWA Technologies system, it was possible to provide tailor-made protection for each unit, by installing different components such as Wireless leak sensors, Detection rulers and Perimeter cables.

All potential water damage has been avoided for more than a year. We were thus able to maintain our insurance coverage without a premium increase for the first time in several years.
