  • How long has AKWA Technologies been on the market and how many installations do they have?
    AKWA has sold over 18,000 systems and 150,000+ sensors in Canada since 2015.
  • Where is the system built?
    The complete Water Alarm system is designed and manufactured in Montreal, Quebec. It is a true Canadian product!
  • What is H2O Leak Detects’ association with AKWA Technologies?
    We are the factory-trained representative for AKWA in British Columbia.

    AKWA Technologies’ Water Alarm system is the only product we represent so all our focus in on providing a leading-edge product, and outstanding customer service to our clients.

  • Why should I buy the AKWA Technologies Water Alarm system? I have never had a leak?
    Insurance premiums and deductibles are rising largely due to excessive water damage insurance claims.

    Some buildings are unable to obtain strata insurance. By proactively installing a water alarm system, you have peace of mind that the potential for water damage claims are greatly reduced.

  • How long does the installation process take?
    Plumbing of the valve must be done by a licensed plumber and typically takes 30 – 60 minutes per unit.

    The Water Alarm system takes 30 – 40 minutes which includes briefing the client on how the systems operates, and what to do in the case of an alarm.

  • We are going on vacation and want to turn our water off. How can we do that?
    1. Press the “close valve” button on the controller or
    2. Close the valve from your smart phone AKWA app.
  • In the case of a leak, can I get a notification sent to my phone?
    Yes, via our app. As soon as water is detected the valve is immediately closed, and within a few minutes an email and/or text is sent to your phone notifying you of a problem.
  • What if I don’t have a smart phone or am not good with technology?
    A phone is only required if you wish to receive alerts. The system will function regardless whether you have a phone or not.

    You may also designate someone to receive alerts on your behalf.

  • An alarm occurs, what should I do?
    1. The first step is to go to the Controller where you will see a message, such as “AL 11”. This means an alarm has been triggered in Zone 11.
    2. Press the ”reset” button to silence the alarm – the valve remains closed.
    3. Locate and manage the leak. Wipe up the water, dry off the sensor, return to the controller and press “reset” again. The water valve will reopen.
  • What kind of maintenance does the system require?
    The only maintenance required is an occasional battery change in the wireless sensors.

    Although they may last 3 – 5 years, we recommend a biennial maintenance program whereby H2O Leak Detect visits the property, inspects the system and replaces the batteries.

  • Will I see my insurance premiums reduced?
    Some buildings with water leak mitigation technology are having deductibles reduced or premium increases halted or minimized.

    We frequently see homeowner’s receiving a discount to their personal home insurance.

    It is wise to contact your insurance broker as underwriters examine each building on an individual basis.

  • What happens if the valve closes when I’m not home?
    The water will be turned off. When you get home, you will need to manage the leak and reset the controller. The water will automatically turn back on.
  • What happens if the power goes out in my home? We will still be protected?
    Yes. Our Water Alarm system has a rechargeable, backup battery which will last approximately six hours.

    If the battery runs out before power is resumed, it will automatically close the valve and protect your property.

    If you are home and require water, you may open the valve manually. Once power is restored, the battery backup will automatically recharge.

  • Can the AKWA Water Alarm system be connected to third-party monitoring services?
    It is often possible to connect our system to other 3rd party systems. Additional equipment or programming may be required.
  • Do I need WiFi for the system to work?
    No. Our Water Alarm system works independently of WiFi. In the case of a multi-residential complexes, we utilize a communication protocol called LoRa (not to be confused with LoRaWAN which is far inferior).

    It is the most secure, reliable, and encrypted protocol on the planet!

  • Will it affect my water purity?
    No. Our stainless-steel valve is NSF 61 certified meaning it is designed to work with potable water.
  • Is your product “certified”?
    Yes, our components have various certifications including CE, ULC, FCC, NSF61 and IC.
  • What kind of warranty does AKWA offer?
    Three-year parts and one-year labour.
